Sámi Northern Lights Storytelling
Meet a local Sámi before the Northern Light tour and get to know who we are - and our connection to the Northern Light.
“When we were little kids, we were really afraid of the northern lights. The elder people in our communities told us never “tease” the northern light, because it will come and take your soul away.”
In this storytelling session, you will learn who we are, and how we have been surviving under the Northern lights for many hundred years, and how we use nature and the Northern light to protect our kids. In this session, you will meet a local sámi person with personal stories through music, traditional Sami clothes, a short movie about two children who get chased by the Northern Light, and personal pictures.
This session is a perfect add-on before you go on a Northern Light tour, and the location is inside the hotel “Radisson Blu”.
Our goal is to teach you our personal story and our relationship to the fantastic Northern Light before you go on your tour. We will make you feel that you are more connected to the Northern Light and we hope this session will maximize your night out in the cold under the Northern Light.

If you are going on a Northern Light tour later the same night, make sure you bring everything you need for your tour if you go straight after this session.

I am Levi.
I'm a Sámi, we are the indigenous people in the Arctic.
I grew up in a small Sámi village named Musken, located north of the Arctic Circle.
Since I was a little kid I have lived under the northern lights, and my respect for the Northern lights has continued through my life.
In my village, the elders used to tell us kids with a strong voice “Never wave to the northern lights, the northern light will come to you and take you away!”
This has followed me all my life. Today I know why...
I will give you a lecture with storytelling about the Northern Lights and all its legends and myths.
We are the people from nature, the Sámis, and want to show you our special bond to it.
